The growth of the packaging industry and consequently, packaging printing, in India has been phenomenal, especially in the areas of paper, board, flexible packaging, and corrugated board. This is catalyzed greatly due to the globalization of the Indian economy, modernization and upgradation of technology, increased functionality of printed packages and above all, the increased awareness of what technology has to offer and its use. Consumers’ quality expectations are increasing and consequently also the demands of the end-user industry, such as retail chain and industrial goods suppliers, who are putting pressure on the printers for tighter tolerances in decorating their packages. As a result, the printing industry is facing new challenges in reproduction processes to produce high quality on various substrates using different printing and finishing processes. This requires the awareness of technologies, such as color control, special effects with UV and varnishing coupled rightly with the practical orientation and advancement in material sciences. At the same time. printing of electronic functionalities, e.g. RFID tags, active inks etc., using conventional printing processes is leading into a hi-tech integration. The scope and future of the packaging industry could be foreseen as a combination of high quality multi-color printing combined with electronic functionalities. This conference aims to bring together experts from the German and Indian printing industry and machine manufactures to discuss the science and technology involved and to provide expertise in the area of special applications. The conference will include practical experience and possible solutions for all concerned, i.e. material and machine manufacturers, printers, converters, and end-users. The conference is jointly organized by the leading, world renowned prestigious university in printing and graphic arts research, the ‘Institute for Print and Media Technology, Chemnitz University of Technology, Chemnitz, Germany’ and the leading printing consultant in India, Kiran Prayagi from ‘Graphic Arts Technology & Education’. The speakers at the conference are well known international experts in their fields of application and are highly acclaimed for their scientific research, its application, and extensive industry experience. The target audience is decision makers in packaging printing industry of flexo, gravure and offset, people at high managerial levels in companies associated with packaging printing, research personnel and the end user industry.
